Vintage Voice Modeling (VCM):

This is a technique I developed over the past few years after doing a bunch of research and recording/analyzing samples from a variety of vintage synths, including Jupiters, OBXs, OBXas, Prophets, CS-80s, MemoryMoogs, PolySix and other classic synths. Much of the coveted VCO analog poly synth character from these classics is due to small but stable per voice variances to oscillator, filter, envelope ADR stage timing and other characteristics. With modern synths like the PolyBrute, you can model this type of behavior through the mod matrix. These patches use the analysis I did, and I have applied lots of fine tuned voice variance to various parameters on a per patch basis. For more details on the topic of voice modeling:

About this Demo:

No external effects were used. What you hear is straight out of the Polybrute, with only some level matching in video editing. Some patches were demo'd with the Matrix-Arp mode on, to give a feel what they sound like in a syncopated fashion. To replicate this on any of the patches, just hit Seq+Arp buttons simultaneously, and you can enter this mode. As you see in the video, I made some adjustments as it plays to demonstrate making live changes to the Arp pattern.

The Fundamentals Soundset:

There are about 128 patches in this soundset (ie: more than a full bank). My main focus was on developing a wide range of tones for songwriting, not necessarily constrained to one genre, but rather a variety of Bass, Synth, Keys, Strings, Brass, Pads and other patches that are staples of synth music over the past 40 years. There are lots of famous song tones, and patches inspired by my favorite sounds from Jupiters, Prophets, OBXs, Moogs, Yamaha CS and others. There are also many elevated modern sounds, where I started from a classic synth sound, and used the modulation and other capabilities of Polybrute to modernize the sound. Many binaural stereo patches demonstrate the wide stereo capabilities of the synth. Also, most all patches have morphing layers, ribbon assignment, mod wheel assignments and aftertouch/pressure with customized/optimized mappings for live performance variation.

Famous Song Patches:

This sound set includes many patches inspired by famous sounds, artists or cinematic sounds.   Sounds inspired by: Radiohead, MUSE, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, A-ha, RUSH, The Cars, Simple Minds, Toto, Gary Numan, Nine Inch Nails, Steven Wilson, Vangelis, Peter Gabriel, M83, Boards of Canada, Lyle Mays, and more.

Installation - Load Patches via Polybrute Connect App

The Polybrute Connect Application (free from Arturia) is required to load these custom patches.   A .pbx User Bank file is available for download upon purchase.   Open Polybrute connect, and choose "Import" from the dropdown menu, then select the .pbx bank file included with the purchase.   That will load all the patches to your Polybrute Connect app.  Now you can click the bank name "CS Fundamentals VCM" and you'll be able to select and preview/play through any of the patches in the soundset.   To load the patches to your Polybrute keyboard for playing without PB Connect app, select your target Bank from the Polybrute Preset Explorer on the right, and then select one or many patches from the soundset (shift clicking) and drag them to the preset slots you wish to send them to.

Patch Categories, Organization
As with all my sound sets, all patches are named with standardized 3 character prefixes that define the sound type.  (ie:  BAS, LED, STR, BRS, SYN, KEY, etc..)  This allows you to easily identify the general sound category independantly of other tags or naming.  The patch prefixes indicate their intended primary usage, however, most of the basses can double as lead tones.  I've done my best to optimize patches to sound great up and down the keybed.

Testimonials

"This by far the best sound pack for the Polybrute. Just by studying those patches in Polybrute connect really helped me step up my sound designs. The templates really help making any patches sound more vintage by inserting per voice small differences in tuning, filter cutoff, resonance and envelope levels and timings." - ML

"These are the best patches for the PolyBrute so far!..." - JG

"I have this collection and it is well worth the money. Not only for the recreations of sounds from yesteryear but for the template patches which can serve as starting points for your own sounds. He’s wisely put all the per-voice offsets and modulation towards the end of the mod matrix slots so when you start creating, you don’t have to worry about overwriting an important routing. Really ace work for both this and the DCO based Rev 2. His programming takes the sound of these instruments further out of the binary zone to help capture that vintage sound and experience in an authentic way." - PKM

"Your patches sound great! Modulating the envelope timings with Voices leads to some magical results, esp. with the envelopes set to loop" - MM

"Great sounds. That NIN bass is dead on." - MW

"I picked a copy yesterday and I never bought a patch bank with so many usable sounds. Sometimes these packs are filled with patches that are spectacular like the THX trailer sound that make your subwoofer generate an earthquake on demand but not very useful in actual music productions. These are useful « bread and butter » patches that will fit well in a mix. And the templates are really good starting points to make our own patches. Especially the moog template, I didn’t know that the Polybrute could sound like that." - JMG

"Amazing, congratulations..."  PG

"Just purchased. I love the sounds and I'm going to analyze them to better understand how the PolyBrute works to make my own patches. Thanks!" - RGC

"I purchased the patch pack and they are amazing! " - LS

"These are excellent! Good job, and bonus points for the Peter Gabriel." - MSTM

"Awesome! I was hoping someone would start this type of stuff" - JS

"Brilliant! I already used VCM on the Rev2, but on the PolyBrute it‘s wayyy less tedious. A new inspiration to me is the pitch scaling. " - RM

"Fantastic work, thanks :)" - FX
