3rd Wave Analog Core Sound Set

Analog Core Soundset – 100 New Patches for Your 3rd Wave
This sound set includes 100 new analog synth sounds, recreating the character of various classic/vintage synthesizers from the golden age of synths, including various famous song patches from the past 50 years of music. Also included are many modern analog designs using the extensive sound design features of the synth such as the deep modulation options and multitimbral capabilities for binaural sounds, stacks and splits.

I've made hundreds of sound designs on this great synth, using all the various engines, including PPG, modern wavetables and the new sample engine -- but this sound set is focused entirely on the hybrid analog / VA capabilities of the synth.

Dozens of famous song tone patches are included, and classic analog sounds inspired by legendary vintage synths: Sequential Prophets, Oberheim OBs, Roland Jupiters, Yamaha GX and CS, and Moogs, plus modern sound designs that take advantage of the extensive capabilities of the 3rd Wave.

The patches inspired by famous artists/songs include ones by:  Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, MUSE, Tears for Fears, Toto, The Cars, Boards of Canada, Prince, RUSH, Daft Punk, M83, Stranger Things, Blade Runner, Harold Faltermeyer, Foreigner, Journey, Duran Duran, Simple Minds, Talk Talk, Van Halen, Thom Yorke, Radiohead, Steven Wilson, Adam Holzman, Michael Jackson and more.

The demo video features about half the patches included in the soundset... there are 50+ more patches as well!   The sound in the demo video is direct from the synth, using only onboard 3rd Wave effects, and no external effects added.   The drums in a few of the demos are from a Roland TR-8S.

Latest Firmware Optimized for Analog Sounds

Update to Latest Firmware Before installing the patches on your 3rd Wave, make sure you have the latest release of the 3rd Wave firmware installed. (v1.8d as of time of release of this sound set) You can download the firmware updates from the official Groove Synthesis website, here: https://www.groovesynthesis.com/support/

Groove Synthesis have shown an industry leading commitment to improvement of the 3rd Wave. Since the launch, which delivered an amazing synth at the time, the 3rd Wave has continually gotten better and better with firmware updates - not only fixing bugs and doing simple adjustments, but also adding major new features and functionality across the board.

If we focus just on the Analog Capabilities, there have been several great firmware updates.

1. I joined the Beta team and helped Bob and Andrew to design and curate a class leading implementation of Vintage Voice Modeling on the 3rd Wave. The "Circuit Drift" algorithm acts in a manner similar to the Vintage Knob on Seq/Ob synths, giving classic/vintage per voice variances to various aspects of the synth engine... It has been configured based on measurements I took of many vintage synths, and tightly curated to minimize dissonance, while still offering the ability to really push the vintage character.

2. The performance of the envelopes and unison modes have been adjusted to offer the most flexibility in re triggering options and slide/glide/legato options.

3. The Groove team added an option to run oscillators in a free-running mode, like VCOs.

4. Some fine tuning was done to the oscillator DSP to get even more accurate VCO character and balanced harmonics. For anyone who got an early version of the synth, make sure to download the latest firmware, as its amazing. (note: there have been dozens of other major changes/updates/additions as well... just mentioned the ones that affect analog performance for this sound set)

Installing the Patches on Your 3rd Wave

Included in the ZIP file download are 100 individual Program/Patch files. In order to install them on your 3 rd Wave, follow the steps below:

1. Connect your 3rd Wave Synth to your Computer via USB cable. It will show up like a USB Drive / Hard Drive you your computer. Open up the drive and go to the Programs folder.

2. (optional)  Backup your 3rd Wave bank that you intend to install the these patches into.  On the 3rd Wave go to the GLOBALS -> Bulk export, and choose to export all the patches in the bank of your choice to Program Files.   They will then show up in the Programs folder on your computer connection to the 3rd Wave, and you can copy them to one of your local drives to keep a backup.  After doing so, remove the files from the programs directory on your 3rd Wave, so that it's an empty folder again.

3. Copy the 100 individual patch files for the Analog Core sound set over to the Programs folder on your 3rd Wave.   (there should just be these 100 files in that directory, nothing else)  After the patch files have copied over, go into the GLOBALS menu on your 3rd Wave synth. Scroll down and select Bulk Program Import function.

4. The 3rd Wave will recognize there are 100 programs in the folder to import. Now use the encoders above the screen to select the BANK you wish to load the files to, and set the Start Program to #1, so it will load all 100 files. When you’re ready to load them, click OK. (Note: Always remember to backup programs first if you want to keep the ones you currently have in that bank) Requires Groove Synthesis 3rd Wave Synth This soundset works with the 3rd Wave synth.

I highly recommend this synthesizer to everyone. It really is the most versatile and powerful Hybrid Analog, PPG and Wavetable Poly Synth ever created. It sounds amazing, and it scores a 10/10 on fun factor... truly a pleasure to play this instrument.
